“In a market crowded with recruitment companies vying for attention, we are constantly being asked “what makes you different? Why should I use you and not your competitor?”

 

I ask you this:-

 

“How do recruitment businesses claim to be unique? The typical answers will include, unique specialisation, ability to source passive candidates, a track record of results, a blue chip client base, quality focus, investment in systems and processes, price, years of experience etc etc….. My observation based on over 20 years of recruitment, and thousands of client interactions, recruiters that claim to be different and then resort to uninspired clichés demonstrate their very sameness.

 

How many brochures do you have, how many websites have you viewed with different words telling exactly the same story – We’re better! We’re experts! We’re there for you! The truth is the industry is riddled with corner cutters, lazy washed up exhausted individuals, mostly because they work for mediocre companies aspiring for mediocrity.

 

What ends up separating recruiters in the end is themselves and their ability to follow through on promises. Its about understanding the little details that others miss that allow you to demonstrate commercial ability that is so rare in recruitment.

 

The answer is not something that we can just “say”. We must “be” the answer. We must “live” the answer and must “act” like the answer. The answer itself is actually pretty obvious. To be different, you must be different. Not similar, not the same but bigger – different.

 

To be different requires, at a very base level being different. Dare to be different and you can achieve difference, uniqueness and a market leading position. We believe each and every one of our staff are different and unique and so are you. We understand the skills, experience and chemistry needed to find the best people for your business is unique to your business. “Recruitment has changed. When I sent my first cv to a client it was in an envelope.

 

The tools that are available now to assist hiring are incredible and only going to get better. But I believe they can only go so far. The fundamentals of recruitment haven’t changed.

 

Recruitment is about people and people are unpredictable, changeable, vulnerable and subject to moments of impulsive behaviour. This is because people are emotional and every human interaction is touched by this unique quality, unique to every individual.

 

With this uniqueness being a key driver on both sides of a hiring decision the margin for error is huge. Hiring is risky and is as critical to an organisations success as it is to a candidate’s career. Risk management has to play a large part in hiring a job or taking a job and it is the management of both of these risks that benefits from an effective intermediary. Done perfectly you will never make a hiring error and never take the wrong offer.

 

The tools revolve predominately around social media, and social media can connect people. But connections are so numerous now that any part they might have played in highlighting peoples or organisations uniqueness are completely lost. By virtue of being connected to everyone and everything it breeds a complete disregard for uniqueness.
